With each passing day, Bollywood seems to be slowly turning its attention towards real life incidents to draw inspiration for a good script.
The toast of the year seems to be nothing but cinema inspired from true incidents and real life characters with the latest film being 'Anjuna Beach', which is reportedly based on the life and death of British teen Scarlett Keeling.
Listed below are some of this year's movies which boast of the 'real' connection.

Not a Love Story

'Not a Love Story' is a tale of the gruesome killing of television executive Neeraj Grover by aspiring TV actress Maria Susairaj and her naval officer fiancée, Emile Jerome Mathew. In May 2008, Emile Jerome Mathew, brutally murdered 25 year old Neeraj Grover, while Susairaj aided her fiancée in chopping the body and getting rid of evidence by burning the pieces in a forest. The movie has Ram Gopal Verma at the helm and he soughts to present the case exactly as it happened, with Mahie Gill, Deepak Dhobriyal and Ajay Gehi cast as Susairaj, Mathew and Grover respectively .

The Dirty Picture

Vidya Balan is set to star in another movie based on a real life character, after her portrayal of Sabrina Lall in 'No One Killed Jessica' . The film, titled 'Dirty Picture' is based on the life of Southern sex siren Silk Smitha. The movie traces the journey of Silk Smitha, portrayed by Vidya Balan, from a plain village girl to one of the most popular soft porn actress in the south during the 80s and early 90s.

No One Killed Jessica

'No One Killed Jessica' is a dramatized version of India's most sensational murder case- the Jessica Lall murder case. Vidya Balan portrayed the role of Jessica's sister Sabrina Lall while rani Mukherji's character was reportedly inspired by journalist Barkha Dutt, who played a crucial role in bringing Jessica's murderers to justice. The director, Raj Kumar Gupta, showed amazing technique in his blend of hard facts and fiction.

Buddha in a Traffic Jam

The very public twists and turns that author and social activist, Arundhati Roy, seem to have influenced director Vivek Agnihotri to have a character inspired by her in his movie, 'Buddha in a Traffic Jam'. Mahie Gil, like Vidya Balan, gets another real life character to portray. Chosen to play the role of Arundhati Roy, it will be interesting to see how she brings to life, on screen, the woman who people strongly admire as well as dislike.

Ragini MMS

Ekta Kapoor's 'Ragini MMS' was based on real life incident surrounding a young girl named Deepika. However, the film is only half real with the other half being fictionalised by adding the horror element to make the film more sustainable at the box-office. Ekta's strategy worked wonders and the half-fact, half-fiction film produced good results at the box-office.

Monica

'Monica' which is a political drama is based on the life of Shivani Bhatnagar, a journalist who was found murdered in her Delhi apartment in 1999. The film stars Divya Dutta in the lead role and Ashutosh Rana cast as the powerful politician in question. Though the film bombed at the box-office, Divya Dutta was stellar in her portrayal of the dead scribe and was critically applauded for her role
