India v South Africa, 3rd ODI,Motera

South Africa beat India convincingly by 90 runs in the third One-Day International, in Motera, on Saturday

Earlier Jacques Kallis won the toss and South Africa decided to bat first in the third and final ODI of the series. There were few changes on either sides.M Vijay and Abhimanyu Mithun made their ODI debuts for India.Rohit Sharma was given a chance and Ashish Nehra was rested.South Africa decided to play with two spinners, Roelof van der Merwe and Johan Botha. Lonwabo Tsotsobe got first match of the tour, replacing Wayne Parnell. Loots Bosman replaced JP Duminy, who is back in South Africa. Morne Morkel replaced brother Albie.

The start was brilliant for the Proteas with Bosman (68) and Amla (87) adding 113 for the 1st wicket. Kallis (104*) coming in next, scored his first century as skipper playing a superb knock keeping one end tight while de Villiers (102*) played an awesome cameo, going on to score the 7th fastest ton in ODIs. The pair remained unbeaten adding 173 runs for the 3rd wicket in just 17.1 overs. The Indian bowling was quite inexperienced as they gave away 122 runs in the last 10 overs of which 78 runs came in the last five overs. At the end South Africa posted 365 in 50 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. Sreesanth, the most experienced, gave away 83 runs off his 9 overs with out striking even once. Spinners Jadeja (1/53) and Pathan (1/66) were relatively good.

In reply India needed a swashbuckling innings from someone at the top to kickstart India's run-chase but unfortunately that wasn't to be as Karthik and Vijay threw away their wickets after getting off to decent starts. Kohli and Rohit Sharma fought hard, forging a 95 run stand for the 3rd wicket but once Rohit was dismissed, Steyn ran through the middle order, picking up Dhoni and Kohli in quick succession to dent India's chances. A lot was expected of Pathan but he failed to come up with the goods yet again and it was all left to Raina and Jadeja to pull India out of the crater that they had been put in. Raina came up with some enterprising shots in the batting power-play but fell one short of a well deserved fifty, and once he was gone India's chances were blown away as well.Steyn claimed 3-37 and Lonwabo Tsotsobe 3-58. Virat Kohli top-scored with 57. The win ensures that SA go back home with a consolation win.Dhoni collected the keys of the Volvo S80 on behalf of Sachin Tendulkar who was ajudged Man of the match . This was one of the most luxurious cars ever won by an Indian cricketer.
