Indian Air Force displays its power at Pokhran - In Pictures

India conveyed its deep concern about 42 functional terror camps across the border to Islamabad, though New Delhi did not expect any ''miracle'' from the just-concluded foreign secretary level talks with Pakistan.

“Forty-two terror camps across the border are intact. It’s our biggest concern. There is no serious attempt (on the part of Pakistan) to dismantle them,” Defence Minister A K Antony told reporters minutes after witnessing a day-dusk-night fire power demonstration by the Indian Air Force (IAF) here.

Only a ‘beginning’

“Resumption of dialogue is only a beginning. We did not expect any miracle,” he said when asked about the outcome of the dialogue.

As many as 107 aircraft participated in the Vayu Shakti exercise, which is being held after a gap of six years. Among the visitors were 28 defence attachés from friendly countries who were awe struck by the display.

A MiG-29 flying low and supersonic at 1,250 km per hour velocity leaving in its wake, a deafening sonic boom signalled the start to the proceedings.

This was followed by photo-reconnaissance missions, flypast and air strikes by Jaguar, MiG-21 Bison, MiG-27, MiG-29, Mirage-2000 and Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft. They were supported by the transporters like AN 32, IL-76 and IL 78.

Behind the scene was an Indian Air Force unmanned aerial vehicle and its latest acquisition Phalcon AWACS (air-borne early warning and control system) which fed continuous information on the targets to the fighters.
